Quotable

17 Sep

“We must be wary of the temptation to relieve the tension of the Christian life in another way–by slipping back into worldliness and simply giving in to the desires of the flesh. It is easy for Christians to become weary in the struggle [against sin/temptation].  If that is you, I beg you to repent.  There is no future in this.  And the longer you continue down this road, the weaker your view of sin will become.  You will find not only that it troubles you less and less, but also that you have forgotten how good and sweet the forgiveness of Christ is.”
-John Chapman, from A Foot in Two Worlds: The Joy and Struggle of the Normal Christian Life

Great post! As people, and especially Christians, we face temptations every day to relieve the pain of life. This post is a great reminder of how counterfeit these temptations are. Thanks!

Its also a reminder to me of how I daily need to remember the Gospel, and how Scripture provides us with the promises of God that are far superior to the fleeting pleasure of the many/various temptations I face. Thanks for liking the page and your comment!
