Destino and My Excitement for the Desiring God National Conference

I am excited for the 2011 Desiring God National Conference in two weeks.  Not only am I excited to sit under the teaching of wise men who have a passion to see the Gospel go forth and God glorified, but I am also excited because of the theme of the conference.  The theme is “Finish the Mission for the Joy of All Peoples: Bringing the Gospel to the Unreached and the Unengaged.

Reaching the Unengaged So That We Might Reach the Unreached

One of the reasons I am so excited about the conference and its theme is because of its relevance to Destino, the ministry with which my wife and I serve.  Destino’s mission is to raise up a generation of Latino leaders who, empowered by the Gospel, will go into the world to have a global impact for Christ.  This means impacting other students on the college campus, seeing communities transformed through the power of the Gospel, and watching men and women go to the ends of the earth to share the life-giving message of Jesus Christ.  Namely, we have a passion to reach the unengaged, so that they might be a part of reaching the unreached for Christ.

I truly believe that we are living in an age in which we will see the fulfillment of the Great Commission.  And one of the amazing ways God is working to do this is by kindling a passion in the hearts of the unengaged to reach those who have not yet heard the Gospel. There are many who have long been seen as a “mission field”, but never viewed as those who might join in with the rest of us as partners in seeing the mission completed.  Yet, we are seeing God raise up Latinos, African and Asians to go to the unreached of the deserts, jungles and cities, to the Middle East, North Africa and Indian subcontinent. Being on staff with Destino helps me to recognize the unique opportunities and skill sets this new generation of missionaries has and the ways in which God is bringing glory to His name through them.

Through laborers such as myself and many others involved with missions and the local church, God is connecting people’s hearts to the mission He set forth to magnify His Son and what He has accomplished for sinful man on the cross, as well as the role we get to play in seeing that mission completed.

Find Me At DG 2011

As I said, I am very excited for this conference and I pray that God might use it to stir up the hearts of those who attend to see how they might be a part of seeing the mission finished.  With that, I would love to meet you at the conference.  I would love to share more of my heart for Destino and cross-cultural ministry and be able to discuss how you can be a part of it with us.  Please feel free to call or email me if you would like to meet up. Look forward to seeing you there!
